During the public meeting at Goolwa on Monday night, I asked Water Minister, Karlene Maywald, whether the government had given up on securing fresh water flows to save the Lower Lakes and Coorong. She replied "absolutely not!" Next morning, we discover that cabinet has approved $30 million and work has already commenced on the Wellington Weir. This shows the government has indeed given up and is resigned to destroying the fresh water ecosystems of the Lower Lakes. This is a national ecological disaster!
